ZORK Project
-
Excerpt: "This past semester we, Kevin Pontuti and Dave Beck, continued a teaching and research experiment which commenced last fall, bringing our two classes (Digital Cinema Studio and Advanced 3D Modeling and Animation) together to work on cross-course interdisciplinary projects. (...) As we discussed project ideas, one of the general parameters that we immediately agreed upon was the need to provide the students with a specific topic or story idea to get the project moving. (...) Since we were framing the semester around the idea of Cinema and Game convergence, we decided to craft a project where the teams would create film trailers or hook scenes for a game that was being adapted into a film, or basically a game-inspired short. After kicking around a number of story adaption ideas we came upon the idea to use ZORK as a point of departure."

RogueBasin
-
Excerpt: "Welcome to RogueBasin, the Roguelike information resource that you can edit. What is a Roguelike? A Roguelike is usually described as a free turn-based computer game with a strong focus on intricate gameplay and replayability, and an abstract world representation using ASCII-based display, as opposed to 3D graphics. Of course, as with any genre, there are deviations from the norm."

SHMUPS!
-
Excerpt: "Arcades: The Motherlode of Shmups! Since videogames infiltrated the electric delights of the smoky arcades there have always been shmups. From the earliest scrollers such as Scramble and Xevious, through the golden age of classics with R-Type and Nemesis, to the modern G-Darius and Raystorm, this list attempts to chronicle them all. Many of the home consoles raided the arcade archives for shootemups, but a great many classics still languish unconverted today. We've all got our own favourites which in time may become emulated or ported, before they moulder away to be forgotten completely."

Break Into Chat - BBS wiki
-
Excerpt: " A wiki about bulletin board systems. Who can forget an encounter with the Ferengi? Flirting with Violet the barmaid? Nuking a neighboring empire? TradeWars 2002. Legend of the Red Dragon. Solar Realms Elite. Classic games that were played once upon a time on dialup bulletin board systems. The Break Into Chat wiki was created to preserve the history of these and other BBS door games, after editors on Wikipedia began deleting (or threatening to delete) door game articles. These activist editors had deemed most BBS doors "non-notable," citing a dearth of quality sources about the individual games. Space Empire Elite was the first to go. In response, I forked all of Wikipedia's BBS door game-related articles, and Break Into Chat was born."

DOS4GW.EXE Version 2.01a and Alternative DOS Extenders
-
Excerpt: "An alternative DOS extender is DOS/32A and the download link is here or here. It is Free Open Source Software and can be used as a drop-in replacement for DOS4GW.EXE (you just have to re-name it to DOS4GW.EXE), but is much faster and more efficient. You may find that it works "more better" with your particular game. I know that Carmageddon runs better with it. If your DOS game uses DOS4GW, you should use this."

Top 10 Run 'N Guns
-
Excerpt: "Eventually the graphical power of arcade machines and computers got to the point where they were no longer limited to displaying the abstract spaceships that defined the shoot 'em up and could actually create convincing humanoid forms. Take this, along with the birth of the platformer, and the run 'n gun—in all its perspectives—is born."
